Sierra Leone mosques equipped with solar panels

The Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat Society has completed the installation of solar panels in ten mosques across Sierra Leone, announced Anjum Ahmadi, deputy head of the society's London team.

The solar panel systems with batteries were installed at mosques in Bo, Daru, Kenema, Lungi, Lunsar, Makeni, Mile 91, Port Loko, Rokupr and Sembehun.

"The reason for these installations is to provide light for Muslims in these communities so that they can have the opportunity to always watch the Ahmadiyya Television channel," Ahmadi said.

These systems will also provide energy for loud speakers used by the mosques and for children in these communities to take lessons at night and do their homework.

With 80 solar panel systems installed so far, various African countries -- including Burkina Faso, Gambia, Ghana, Mali and Uganda -- have benefited from the society's project, Ahmadi said.
