Microsoft, Nokia Team on Mobile Projects

It's official: Microsoft will move Office to Nokia's Symbian platform along with unspecified other "business communications, collaboration, and device management software."

It appears the companies want to make it easier for Nokia phone users to sync e-mail, documents, and other material with the Microsoft applications on their computers. The capability will come first to Nokia's e-Series of phones.

The pair touted the Exchange ActiveSync function to synchronize data across platforms, something they first discussed nearly five years ago.

In today's announcement, Nokia representatives said Microsoft Office Communicator Mobile will start shipping on its smartphones next year, with other Office applications and services following. The companies said the new functions will include:
